Video to Lottie. Lottie under 2 MB. Video re-encoded smaller. Nothing leaves your browser.

No file size limit. No account. No paid tier.

MP4 to Lottie JSON, at its original resolution.

We'll tell you when Lottie is the wrong answer. Most converters will happily hand you a 12 MB Lottie of a 2 MB video. Each frame becomes an image, so the JSON usually ends up bigger than the source. We check first, and say so.

25 fps, original resolution. LottieFiles rejects previews over 10 MB, so trim long clips first. The .lottie option is usually a good deal smaller than the JSON.

Your picture stays the size you made it

Most compressors shrink the picture first because it's the easiest win. These tools spend quality and frame rate instead, and say so when that isn't enough.

Resolution is not a lever

Every frame comes out at the width and height it went in at. Verified on each run, not assumed.

Nothing to configure

No quality sliders or format menus. It works out how hard to compress by testing your actual file.

Honest when it can't

If a target isn't reachable without wrecking the picture, it stops and says so rather than guessing.

Your files stay yours

Everything runs in the browser. No upload, no server, no account. Works with the network off.

Questions worth answering first

What can I drop into each tab?
  • Video to Lottie takes MP4, M4V, MOV or WebM and gives you a Lottie .json or a .lottie, with both sizes shown so you can pick. The video has to be something the browser can decode, which in practice means 8-bit 4:2:0 H.264.
  • Shrink a Lottie takes a Lottie .json or a .lottie with image frames embedded in it, and returns both a smaller .json and a .lottie, with sizes shown so you can pick. A vector-only Lottie has no images to compress, and it will tell you so.
  • Shrink a video takes MP4, MOV or WebM and needs Chrome, Edge or Firefox; Safari cannot re-encode video inside a page, on Mac or iPhone. It says whether you will get MP4 or WebM before it starts.
Why is my Lottie bigger than the MP4 I made it from?

Because a video codec compresses across time — it stores what changed between frames — while a Lottie holding images stores each frame whole, then base64 adds roughly a third on top. A growth of several times over is normal and not a fault in the conversion. Lottie makes sense when a runtime requires it, not as a way to save weight.

Can I keep 25 fps and still get under 2 MB?

Often not. At full frame rate a ten second clip needs 250 separate images, and dividing 2 MB between them leaves so little per frame that the artefacts become obvious. Halving the frame rate doubles the budget for every remaining frame, which usually looks better than a full-rate file compressed to bits. The tool tests both against your actual footage rather than guessing.

What is the .lottie option?

A .lottie file is a zip container holding the same animation plus its images as real files rather than base64 text inside the JSON. Identical frames and identical pixel dimensions, usually a good deal smaller. It is offered on both Lottie tabs, whether you are converting a video or shrinking an existing file. Most current players read it, including the LottieFiles web player and dotlottie-web, but older or custom runtimes may only accept plain JSON, so both downloads are offered with their sizes shown.

Is it actually free, or free until I hit a limit?

Actually free. There is no account, no file size cap beyond what your own browser can hold, no watermark, and no held-back result you have to pay to unlock. There is a coffee link in the footer if you feel like it, payable by card or PayPal from anywhere, and ignoring it changes nothing about how the tools behave.

Do my files get uploaded?

No. There is no server. Every file is read, decoded and re-encoded inside your browser tab. You can disconnect from the network after the page loads and everything still works.
